Why sociomapping?

For all the information about sociomapping, please visitwww.sociomapping.com!

Sociomapping is a state-of-the-art technology and a key tool which supports effective co-operation and communication within teams and across a whole organisation. Better communication and effective co-operation demonstrably results in higher team performances, improved climate and atmosphere within the organisation, and last but not least promotes greater employee participation.
Quality communication in teams and the company increases employee participation, their sharing of experiences, ability to make effective joint decisions, and improves financial results. (Johnson et al., 2007, Vora, 2012, Littlepage, 2008 and others)

What is sociomapping?

The whole is more than the sum of its parts, and in the same way a team’s performance is to a large extent a result of the quality of communication and co-operation of individual people, and not just their individual abilities. Why, then, are most development programmes focused more on individuals than on the team as a whole? It is really difficult to analyse relations in a team and find a way to improve them. In a ten-member team, there are 90 different relations between people. As such, we can analyse the situation in a team through sociomapping, which is based on our metaphorical understanding of interpersonal ‘closeness’ and places people in a team on a map according to, for example, how often they communicate with each other. And everyone is familiar with maps. Everyone can see their place on the map of the current situation, and can compare it with a map of the optimal situation, and with the help of our trained facilitator can quickly see what needs to be changed. Each map is based on the perception of individual team members, and thus brings together all the individual perspectives. This means it is easy for people to relate to the map and accept their portion of responsibility for the situation within the whole team.
